Fancy Color Diamonds Achieve Top Lots at Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels Sale June 2015

Christie’s Hong Kong’s Magnificent Jewels achieved HK$909,663,000 / US$117,892,325 and three auction records!

“Christie’s Hong Kong established a new record for the most valuable jewellery auction ever held in Asia. The family collection of K’ung Hsiang-Hsi sold for US$14.6 m, 7 times its low estimate. More records were achieved for a ruby necklace, a Kashmir sapphire and a jadeite cabochon and collectors were mesmerized all through the day bidding in any increment and as long as it took to try and acquire anything at the sale,” said Vickie Sek, Director of Christie’s Asia Jewellery Department.

According to the esteemed auction house, this was the highest value for a jewelry auction held in Asia. The auction was 89.5 percent sold by lot and 88.4 percent by value.

Sek added that the family collection of K’ung Hsiang-Hsi sold for $14.6 million, which was seven times its pre-sale low estimate. The top lot was a Burmese ruby and diamond necklace of 120 carats by Etcetera that sold to an Asian private for $13 million (HKD 100.4 million). Other diamond pieces that made the top 10 at the sale were a rectangular-shape, 15.15-carat, D, IF diamond ring by Graff that sold for $3.6 million (HKD 27.6 million), or $235,760 per carat, and a pear-shape, 3-carat, IF, fancy intense blue diamond ring by Moussaieff, which sold for $2.6 million (HKD 19.7 million), or $851,904 per carat. a_rare_coloured_diamond_ring_by_moussaieff_d5898469h
